Which zodiac sign where you born under? Aquarius, year of the Dog

If a magic fish granted you one wish, what would it be? The fish would be an enormous anglerfish and it would grant my wish that I not be eaten by it.

What inspired your story? Carrie Cuinn’s tattoos as glimpsed during breakfast at Readercon 2011. That and, you know, an abiding deep-rooted love of mythos.

Did you listen to music while writing it? No. The dog gets banished to another room if he’s snoring too loudly when I’m trying to write, and I’ve been known to unplug the refrigerator to stop its hum. Silence is good.

How many rewrites did you do before submitting? Zero. I polish a story, but rarely rewrite.

What is your favorite bit?

Until now, the butterfly koi has lived only to exist as part of the girl. They feel beautiful together–much more beautiful than they would feel without each other. Without him, she would simply be a pretty canvas. Without her, he would be nothing more than ink.
